Bioassay guided isolation and characterization of natural products with emphasis on antimicrobials, antimalarial, anticancer and antidiabetic, synthesis and semi synthesis of natural products, Essential Oils; Extraction and Chemical Profile Analysis and determination of their pharmacological activities; Ethno-botanical Management of Brown Ear tick Rhipicephalus appendiculatus. Application of chemical ecology in the control of ticks and tsetse flies through structural activity studies of potential repellents, Water remediation studies using agricultural wastes as adsorbents; studies of soil, plant nutrients and adsorption chemistry in pursuit of sustainable agriculture practices; Use of modified adsorbents in agricultural practices to improve food security; Isolation and characterization of various mycotoxin; Management of Fungal metabolites (Mycotoxins and Ochratoxins) using ethnobotanicals

Mentorship Statement: Dr Margaret Nganga is passionate about mentorship of young men and men. My mentorship style is empowerment-oriented, culturally sensitive, holistic, compassionate and excellence driven. I have been a mentor for over 20 years in the world of academia /research for both undergraduate and graduate students. I have extensive experience in mentorship for the youth especially for the girls in STEM. I spearhead mentorship program as a Chairperson of Board of Management of St Alexis Ruchu girls with over 1000 girls and as a board member of OLR Mugoiri Girls high school board of management in-charge of academics. I have acquired training and coaching in Transformational Leadership from Africa Center for Transformative and Inclusive Leadership (ACTIL). I am extremely proud of the diversity and large number of the graduate students whom I have mentored and of their impressive research and career success.
