Prof. Nadir Omar Hashim is an Associate Professor and former chairman in the Department of Physics at Kenyatta University. He earned his Dr. rer. nat. degree in June 2007 at Siegen University, Germany. The doctoral thesis work involved measurement and Monte Carlo simulation of cosmic ray muons using the ALEPH at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). His studies were funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Max Planck Society in Germany. The data analysis was carried out at Siegen University, in Siegen and the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany. The findings of his research work have been disseminated during the annual meetings of the German Physical Society as well as in international conferences. Prof. Hashim is currently the academic leader of the nuclear science and technology training program at Kenyatta University. He has advanced his knowledge in the field of Nuclear Knowledge Management (NKM), Nuclear Energy Management (NEM) and Radiation Protection. He has served as external examiner in Physics Departments at local Universities. Prof. Hashim has supervised over 40 postgraduate students and collaborates with international scientists in the fields of radiation physics, astronomy and astrophysics. He is actively engaged in mentoring young scientists at the global level. Prof. Hashim served as the Chairman of the National Technical Steering Committee of the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) project in Kenya. He is actively engaged in the development of astronomy and astrophysics in Kenya and the region of Africa. He is a member of the following societies: East African Association of Radiation Protection (EAARP), Kenya Physical Society (KPS), Nuclear Society of Kenya (NSK). At the national level, Prof. Hashim serves in various technical committees at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI). Prof. Hashim coordinates the African Network for Education in Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA-NEST) which is fostered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He coordinates the IAEA-Internet Reactor Laboratory (IRL) in Kenya. Prof. Hashim is among the national coordinators and facilitators for the IAEA Postgraduate Educational Course (PGEC) in Radiation Protection and Safety of Sources in Kenya, which is directed by the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA).
